A Committee to advise Government on
future strategy for export promotion and increasing competitiveness of domestic
industry was constituted on 10.12.2010.
2. Shri Habib Hussain,
being the Chairman of Council for Leather Exports, was nominated as member of
the Committee. Since Shri M. Rafeeque
Ahmed is now the Chairman of Council for Leather Exports, he would be the
member of the Committee in place of Shri Habib Hussain.

Sub: Setting up of Committee to advise Government
on future strategy for export promotion and increasing competitiveness of
domestic industry.
The 2nd meeting of
reconstituted Board of Trade was held under the Chairmanship of Shri Anand Sharma, Minister for
Commerce & Industry at Vigyan Bhavan
on 25th Nov.2010. Responding to suggestions, Commerce and Industry
Minister announced formation of a Committee to advise the Government on future
strategy for export promotion on increasing competitiveness of domestic
industry. This Committee shall identify atleast 3
thrust sectors in 3 regions with whom

may co-opt or invite such other persons as may be necessary from time to time.

important input to our export strategy.

The Terms of Reference of the Board of Trade are:
- To advise the Government
on Policy measures for preparation and implementation of both short and long
term plans for increasing exports in the light of emerging national and
international economic scenarios;
- To review export
performance of various sectors, identify constraints and suggest industry
specific measures to optimize export earnings;
- To examine the existing institutional
framework for import and exports and suggest practical measures for further
streamlining to achieve the desired objectives;
- To review the policy
instruments and procedures for imports and exports and suggest steps to
rationalize and channelise such schemes for optimum
use;
- To examine issues which are considered
relevant for promotion of
- To commission studies for furtherance of the
above objectives;
The Board will meet at least once every quarter and
make recommendations to Government on issues pertaining to its terms of
reference. The Board of Trade will have the power to set up sub-committees and
to co-opt experts to these, to make recommendations on specific sectors and
objectives.
